About us

Social and Media Consulting (SOMECON) z.s. registered as a non-profit citizens' initiative with the Czech Republic Ministry of Justice in December 2015.

Social and Media Consulting (SOMECON) was founded by an international group of media professionals to provide training support to independent media in the Russian Federation and other countries of the former Soviet Union. Our members are current journalists with worldwide experience and professors of the famous universities. Our trainers work for Czech national television, major Czech print media, Czech national radio, BBC World Service and universities around the world.

SOMECON's members came together out of a common interest in furthering the cause of independent and free media in the former USSR by developing the skills and raising the professional standards of journalists working in television, radio and the Internet.

SOMECON offers a rare combination of skills and backgrounds, coupled with deep experience of the target region. What makes SOMECON truly unique is that we combine the best traditions of US and European broadcast values with the Czech experience of transition from totalitarian to free media.
